After the cancellation of my South Africa trip I was still hopeful for Christmas in Belgium. In fact I was even more excited. I did my day trips planned out, my mouth was watering for the food and I was trying to decide what to pack. Of course then came the covid surge , changes in testing requirements , the shutdown of the markets around Europe and the new Omicron variant changed that. When the airline changed my flight to include two layovers both ways instead of a direct flight from JFK taking over 15 hours to get there , I decided it was a sign. The trip, was going to be more hassle than fun. I canceled. I don’t regret but a am still very disappointed.
I haven’t really been able to get in the Spirit this year and no amount of Hallmark movies is going to do the trick. I’m not quite at Scrooge or Grinch level and I did put up my tree but I just feel like I’m going though the motions. I need a jumpstart. I have an idea.
When I was little , I was fascinated by Christmas traditions around the world. I still am. Since I am not traveling this year ( fingers crossed for 2022) , I decided to spend the holiday season posting holiday traditions, mythology, food and drink from around the world. Hope you enjoy. Thoughts?
First up Krampus…..
