I should confess now, if it isn’t already glaringly apparent , I am an absolute nerd who loves a theme.
So instead of being in Germany I decided to watch German/ foreign programming to help me feel like I am somewhere else. I watched this great show on Netflix called. It’s about a struggling musician who goes home fro Christmas and encounters some unpleasant surprises. It was three episodes and heartwarming, and funny. I love seeing how other countries portray these universal themes. Usually they are way less schmaltzy.
I have broken out the Christmas pjs and slippers as you can see.
The original plan for last night was to make some mulled wine but I changed my mind and made a French 75. It is still keeping to the Christmas theme because the first time I had one was at my hotel in Vienna when I was there a few yard ago for Christmas. Gina and champagne , what’s not to like?!. It was love at first sip. And I have been hooked ever since. That hotel by the was was the Sofitel in Vienna. The bar has an amazing view of the city. Even if you don’t stay there when you visit you should stop by one night for a cocktail.
The French 75 is apparently named after the 75mm Howitzer . It was a field gun used by French and American soldiers during WWI. It was supposedly invented at Harry’s Bar in Paris . A bit of trivia, it is the drink ordered by Yvonne’s nazi boyfriend in Casablanca.
French 75 Recipe
- 2oz gin ( I love Hendricks but everyone has a favorite)
- 1/2 of lemon juice (;some peel a a garnish
- 3/4 Simple syrup ( easy to male yourself in 5 minutes
- 2 oz champagne ( I usually add a bit more)
- Most often served in champagne flute
- A refreshing year round cocktail
Combine ingredients except for the champagne in cocktail shaker with ice. Mix well. Strain into flute. Top with champagne and garnish with lemon peel.
Enjoy!
